Digital Currencies and Monetary Policy Transmission: Evidence from a Natural Experiment
Abstract
We exploit the staggered rollout of China's digital yuan (e-CNY) pilot program as a natural experiment to study how central bank digital currencies affect monetary policy transmission. Our findings reveal that e-CNY adoption accelerates the pass-through of policy rate changes to deposit and lending rates, particularly in regions with lower financial inclusion.
