Remote Work and Organizational Innovation: Evidence from the COVID-19 Pandemic
Abstract
Drawing on the unprecedented natural experiment created by the COVID-19 pandemic, we develop a theoretical framework for understanding how remote work arrangements affect organizational innovation. We propose that remote work creates a paradox: while it enhances individual creative thinking through reduced interruptions and increased autonomy, it simultaneously weakens the serendipitous interactions and social ties that fuel collective innovation.
